Dear Parent(s) Greetings! Here is a concise overview of activities done by the students in the month of September 2021. Theme and Naturalistic-September Learning about empathy, relationships, the environment and nature are just some of the benefits children receive by caring for animals. Animals appeal to children's curiosity, bring enthusiasm to their learning and enrich their daily experiences. There is no doubt that most children love animals. From the earliest age, learning the names of animals and their sounds are a key first language skill and many children’s toys and favourite characters are based on animals throughout childhood. There is a clear natural affinity between them. This month children enjoyed learning about the animals which included farm, pet and wild animals. They were also introduced to the concept of food chain
Universal Value- ‘I am Compassion’ Compassion is empathy, caring in action, and willingness to help others. Compassion sensitize people towards the sufferings of others and motivates them to go out of their way to help the physical, mental, or emotional griefs of another and themselves. Children were briefed about empathy, concern, and active compassion. Educator also discussed several ways in which children can show compassion (by saying encouraging words, sharing a hug or handshake, offering to help someone, motivating others, etc.).In one of the naturalistic sessions, the educator also discussed the importance and ways of taking care of animals and presented a video about being kind to animals. Naturalistic Intelligence
Verbal Linguistic Intelligence–English Children won half the battle in getting their foundation strong by learning the phonetic sounds from‘a-y’ along with their related vocabulary. They were able to recognize and write letters from ‘R r to Y y’ correctly. These letters were introduced through jolly phonics songs and flashcards of their related vocabulary words with the help of PowerPoint Presentations. Sight words play a key role in upskilling them to read short sentences. Children also attempted to read the ‘en’, ‘ed’ and ‘et’ stories from their English Reader book and also recapitulated vowel ‘a’ short stories. Logical Mathematical Intelligence Stimulation of logical-mathematical intelligence promotes cognitive development, especially in terms of logical thinking, reasoning, problem, solving, and concentration. Our approach of integration through abacus has helped the children understand the concept of tens and ones, hence they are able to orally count and write till 100 as per the correct place value. Children got the opportunity to learn new concepts viz.- backward counting from 30-1, what comes before, after, and in between. These concepts were made fun by associating with an activity where the kids were guided by the educator to create the ‘Wormy Apple strips’. Their ongoing learning process in linguistic skills has helped them to link numerals with their names. They learned to recognize number names up till ‘Six’. Visual-Spatial Intelligence Art is a creative therapy which involves visual movements, imagination skills, aesthetic skills, and finger dexterity. Children gained these skills with the help of various colouring and craft activities.
Musical Intelligence Indian Music
Western Music Children practiced singing the following songs, ‘Praise him’, ‘mercy is falling’ and ‘This little light of mine’ to the tune of a guitar in western music. Dance Dance is a way for kids to express their creativity, imagination, and emotions. During the month, the children did warm up exercises and danced to the tunes of the song, ‘It’s a Dance party everybody make your body dance’. Bodily Kinaesthetic Intelligence Bodily kinaesthetic intelligence highlights a person’s ability to use their whole body for expression and understanding. People who possess this intelligence are highly aware of their bodies and use the same for controlling their bodily motions. Children performed the yoga exercises (tree pose, warrior pose, lotus pose, cobra pose) during the first week followed up by superhero exercises in the second week. During the third and fourth week, a variety of exercises such as on the spot jogging, side bending, stretching, frog jump etc. were performed by the children along with the educator to build muscular strength and have an active body. Drama Drama promotes communication skills, teamwork and dialogue delivery. It stimulates the imagination and creativity in a child and also develops a better understanding of human behaviour and empathy with distant situations. Kids enacted to the various expressions and feelings in stories like चालाककुम्हार’ and‘कंजूसआदमी’ in the first and second week respectively followed by a role play activity of ‘copy cats’ in the third week through facial expressions and actions. Storytelling The month started with an insightful and motivational story from the life of Gautam Buddha who believed in truthfulness and wisdom. In those days, cats were considered to be sinful animals. So, the story narrated in the first week of the month was titled ‘For the love of a cat’ (an Indian folk tale) which talked about the love and dedication of this animal towards its master and which totally changed the perception of the people towards this animal in those days followed by few cat activities in the second week. ‘Pranav’s picture’ a short and fun story by Nandini Nayar (author of several children’s books) was narrated along with the story re- telling activity by the children in the third week and an inspirational story based on the short incidents in ‘Kasturba Gandhi’s life was narrated in the last week of the month. Interpersonal Intelligence Birthday celebration& other Events Birthday Celebration: Celebrations are a fun and important way for children, families, and educators to actively learn about each other. Hence, all Kindergarten children who were born in the month of September had their birthday celebrations on Thursday, 30thSeptember 2021. The theme for the celebration was ‘My Favourite Animal’. Many students came dressed according to the theme and also carried toy animals or a picture related to it. They spoke a few lines on their ‘favorite animal’.
