Theme: Dinosaurs and Christmas Dinosaurs and Christmas Theme 1: Dinosaurs and Christmas “Dinosaurs are one of the best ways for children to learn about the evolutionary history of our planet”. These incredible and fascinating creatures taught children more about how they came into existence, adapted, survived and disappeared. The educator made children aware of the spirit of Christmas celebrations. Children sang ‘Christmas Carols’ along with the teacher. Universal Value ‘Yesterday I was clever, so I wanted to change the world. Today I am wise, so I am changing myself.’ Wisdom guides us from making unwise decisions and it is a gift that we can give to our children. At Suncity, we aim to inculcate the ‘Sanskars’ in our young learners through universal values. The value for this month was ‘I Am Wise’. To cultivate this virtuous value and to help each child understand that we are wise when we pay respect and obey to others, the educator narrated the story of ‘The Wise Rabbit’. Children were taught to think before they speak and accept other people for who they are. Naturalistic Intelligence •Students were able to differentiate between reptiles and amphibians. •Students learnt some interesting facts about reptiles. •The educator also discussed about climate change that helped children understand the real causes behind the climate crisis, that would help them start taking responsibility for making changes. •Teaching conservation to the next generation is important, as attitudes about the earth's natural resources begin to develop at a tender age. The educator sensitized the children about the benefits of conservation of natural resources. •Educator also showed a video on extinct and endangered animals that helped them understand sustainability and the damage and threat to native animals and their environment. Verbal Linguistic Intelligence – English As beginners learn to read, incorporating simple sentences is a great way to help students put their reading skills together. Children were guided and encouraged to read sight words and names of a few fruits. They were encouraged to read sight words and create a word wall at home for independent reading practice. They practiced reading and writing short sentences along with the concept of ‘This and That’. They learnt to recognize and write the rhyming words of ‘o’ family. Verbal LinguisticIntelligence –Hindi दिसंबर के महीने में छात्रों को व्यंजन गीत और कहानी के माध्यम से व्यंजन च, न, ल, ड, झ, घ और ध का परिचय कराया गया। अध्यापिका जी ने व्यंजनों को दिखाया और इनसे शुरू होने वाले नए शब्द सिखाये जैसे - च से चम्मच, न से नथ, ल से लोमड़ी, ड से डमरू, झ से झरना, घ से घर, ध से धन। साथ ही साथ बच्चों को इन व्यंजनों से शुरू होने वाले नए शब्द बताने के लिए प्रोत्साहित किया और व्यंजनों का अभ्यास कार्य-पुस्तिका में कराया। Logical Mathematical Intelligence Stimulation of logical-mathematical intelligence promotes cognitive development, especially in terms of logical thinking, reasoning, problem-solving, and concentration.
During the second half of the month, alternate phrases for 'addition' like 'sum up', 'more than, 'together', 'all of them', ' one more' and 'total' were also discussed.
Visual-Spatial Intelligence Visual arts help children represent their thoughts & skills and also help them explore their innate creative and artistic skills. In the first week, the educator discussed Wildlife Conservation Day as it falls on Dec 4th every year. Later the children made a free-hand drawing of reptiles and amphibians. In the second week, the children danced to the song ‘Dinosaurs have great big teeth’. Later they made 3D Dinosaur Craft along with the educator. In the third week, the children made the reindeer headband craft on the occasion of Christmas as they sang the famous carol ‘Rudolph the red-nosed reindeer’. In the fourth week, children made ‘Climate Change Earth Craft’. Later they made drawings to showcase the ways in which they could make a crying mother earth happy. Musical Intelligence Indian Music Music is a vital part of a human life. It spreads happiness and joy in everyone’s life. The children practiced the welcome song ‘आओ आओ संगीत बनाओ, vocal warm ups, rhythm clapping, ‘Head shoulders knees and toes’ and ‘Shake-the shaker’ song. Western Music Children practiced singing the most popular and the much loved carol, ‘Rudolph the red- nosed reindeer’ along with the educator. Dance Dancing is an excellent source of entertainment, laughter, and joy. Physical fitness is just one of the many benefits of dance that can enhance a child’s life in many ways. During the month, the children did warm up exercises and were thrilled to dance to the tune of the ‘Jingle bells’ song. Bodily Kinaesthetic Intelligence Bodily-Kinaesthetic is a learning style often referred to as ‘learning with the hands’ or physical learning.People with Bodily- Kinaesthetic intelligence can learn more easily by doing, exploring, and discovering. The month was full of exercises to boost the students’ stamina and gross motor skills. During the first week, children performed ball exercises (flip and catch, tiny toss, etc.) They had the fitness run during the second week. During the third week the children enjoyed the hula hoop exercises along with the educator. Drama Dramatic play is a type of play in which children accept and designate roles, and then act them out. It is an activity where they break through their norms, pretend to be someone or something different from themselves and dramatize situations and feelings for the characters they have chosen. This month the educator narrated the following stories- 1. टुनि और बिल्ली की कहानी 2. झूठा तोता Storytelling Storytelling is an effective tool for learning and development in children. Storytelling helps in building empathy in the children, enables brain development and lays the foundation for the development of social, communication and interpersonal skills. The following stories were narrated by the educator during the month of December: • ‘What could it be’- This story talked about wishful thinking and role of imagination in a child’s life. It featured an unopened gift box and children were made to do the guesswork; underlying hidden desires and needs of the children during childhood in a fun way. • ‘We’re all wonders’ – This story aligns with the value “I am Tolerant’. It emphasizes upon accepting individual differences in terms of thoughts, ideas, behaviours and lifestyles with respect and reverence. God has made everyone equal but it’s one’s attitude and beliefs which makes one stand out from the rest and though we all have different strengths and weaknesses, we should always try to take good from others in order to grow and progress. In the following week, a worksheet activity “See, think and wonder” was done in which children were given a situation and they had to think, visualize and create pictures depending on what they see, think and wonder. Interpersonal Intelligence Birthday celebration & Other Events Birthdays are very special and memorable in everyone's life. Each and every child waits for this day curiously. So how can we miss this? Keeping up the spirits high, in the current scenario, we celebrated the birthdays of children born in the month of December virtually. The theme was ‘Christmas’. Children were encouraged to speak a few lines on the theme through the ‘show and tell’ activity. They dressed along with the coordinated props and shared their knowledge and thoughts with their friends and teachers. Children reiterated the basic etiquettes and mannerisms while attending a birthday party. Joy of Giving (Project Uphaar- 'Discover the Joy of Giving and you will discover the reason for living'. As a part of the Project Uphaar initiative taken by Suncity, the little ones were encouraged to donate blankets through a 'Blanket Donation Drive' to the ones in need in these chilly winters. Suncitizens believe in learning by doing and we learnt the universal values of being kind and compassionate through these little initiatives to make the world a better place. Math Week Math Week (13th-17th December)was commenced by a brainstorming session with our little mathematicians wherein children were asked a few questions like ‘When do you get up? When do you go to bed? When do we start our first class in the morning?
