Dear Parent, (s) Greetings! Let's glance through the months of ‘Awesome’ August. 'Growth is the only evidence of life’. Words like improvement, achievement, and success have no meaning without continuous growth and progress. Liberty, when it begins to take root, is a plant of rapid growth. Now, when the children have taken the wings to fly, we don’t want them to stop; instead, see them blossom through our theme ‘Growth’. Theme-Growth
Naturalistic Intelligence You can start changing the world for the better daily- no matter how small the action’ - Nelson Mandela.
Verbal Linguistic Intelligence –English Engaging with language encompasses four fundamental abilities: listening, speaking, reading, and writing. In the realm of language acquisition, children recently revisited the phonetic sounds of letters from 'a' to 'p', along with the Jolly Phonics song. They were introduced to the letters ‘Nn-Pp’, including how to write them and the vocabulary words associated with them, thus enriching the young learners' linguistic skills. Within this immersive learning journey, young minds encountered a few new sight words (what were, go, will, so, like, them, see), paving the way for enhanced reading comprehension. This was evident as they practiced both reading and writing CVC words and short stories belonging to the 'at', 'an', 'ap', 'ad', ‘et’, 'en’, and ‘ed’ family words, in their notebooks and reader books. The letters N to P made their entrancing debut, complete with their graceful formations and associated vocabulary, thus enriching the young learners linguistic landscape. Storytelling Story telling promotes brain development and imagination in children. It develops language and emotion and helps in strengthening relationships. Keeping this view in mind ‘’The Giving Tree’’ was the first story narrated this month, which emphasized upon the value of give and take in a relationship. The story was followed by “The Enormous Turnip” in which children learnt about teamwork and helping others in the second week. The story was followed by drawing and coloring activity based on the last week’s story. They were so amazed to hear the story ’The Princess and the Pea’. Drama Engaging in role-play activities can aid in fostering empathy among children, as well as improving their ability to express themselves, manage their emotions, and explore undiscovered feelings and emotions. In line with this, stories such as 'The Rainbow Fish', and 'The Ant and the Grasshopper' were narrated to the children. Following this, they actively participated in enacting scenarios guided by the educator. These experiences aimed to equip students with practical skills applicable to real-life situations. Logical-Mathematical Intelligence 'Mathematics gives us hope that every problem has a solution.’
Visual-Spatial Intelligence Visual Art Visual special intelligence is the ability to perceive, analyse, understand, store, and recall visual information. It is a creative therapy that uses all disciplines of art, visual movements, imagination skills, aesthetic skills and finger dexterity. Children explored their aesthetic skills with the help of various coloring and craft activities during Visual-Spatial session. In the first week, learners created a ‘Necklace’ related to letter’ Nn’. Later in the second week, they enjoyed ‘Thumb printing’ activity related to insects. In the third week, keeping patriotism in their minds, children created a ‘Tricolour confetti popper’ with their peers. Coming to the fourth week, a beautiful car ‘Rakhi’ was created on the occasion of Raksha Bandhan whereas they made a ‘Honey Bee’ craft in the last week. Pottery During the month of August, our young hearts were soaked in the feeling of patriotism. We integrated the lessons with the National symbols of India. So, our young sculptures sculpted a Peacock, our National Bird earthen lamp, and painted blue. They also painted their ओखली which they made earlier in the colours of our National Flag. To integrate pottery with the theme of the month i.e., Insects, they made a beautiful butterfly. Not to miss the cute rat which was also sculpted by our young hands to reiterate the ‘a’ vowel CVC word. Montessori “We must see this vision of child in correlation with the environment and his adaptation to it”. - Maria Montessori
Imaginarium “ Imagination is the eye of the soul.” ~Joseph Joubert Children showcased their imagination and creativity at the block station by building different structures. They also explored and enjoyed the role play activities at the pretend play station and puppet theatre which enhanced their creative thinking, gross motor skills, and visual-spatial intelligence. Musical Intelligence Indian Music Music is quite vital in our daily life; it gives a background to different moods and different moments of life. Music helps the soul to rejuvenate and brings joy and happiness to everyone. Children welcomed each other through the welcome song and enjoyed ‘सा, रे, गा, मा’ body game and vocal warmup. Western Music Music is an excellent way for kids to express themselves. They can express their feelings and emotions through music. This can help them communicate better and creatively express themselves. During the month, Children practiced singing the song, ‘We shall overcome’ and revised the song to the tunes of a guitar along with the educator. Dance Dance has physical benefits – as a form of exercise it is highly physical and great for young children’s health. Children that take up dancing regularly can significantly improve their fitness, wellness, flexibility, strength, and stamina. August was the month of celebrating important festivals-Independence Day, and Raksha Bandhan. Overwhelmed with the feeling of patriotism they danced to the song ’ऐसा देश है मेरा’. To celebrate the festivity of love between brother and sister, they tapped their footsteps on the song ‘फूलों का तारों का’. Bodily Kinesthetic Intelligence The bodily kinesthetic learning style is one of eight types of learning styles defined in Howard Gardner’s theory of Multiple Intelligences. People with bodily kinesthetic intelligence may seek out touching and manipulating objects when learning about them. They enjoyed creating work with their hands, may have a lot of energy and need to move, and may be talented athletes. This month students practiced the below mentioned exercises:
KG-C & D: Parachute Drill which improves the locomotors and non-locomotors skills in children. Skating Getting kids involved in skating is a great way to move them up! They learn how to control their speed and direction and stop and start smoothly. These are essential skills for any activity, not just skating! For kids, skating can be a great confidence booster. They learn they can do something they once thought was impossible, which can carry over into other areas of their lives. During this month children practiced the following skills while skating: Zig-Zag Walking Simple Sit Sliding on Skates Walking in a Circle Speed Skating Water Play Water play develops motor skills and sensory exploration. Water play is not just a session to play in the splash pool. It is a carefully planned session, as waterplay:
Our young Suncitizens anxiously wait for their Water Play session. They love to get into the splash pool and play with their friends in the water. Interpersonal Intelligence Birthday celebration- Show & Tell Our little ones find great joy in birthday celebrations. So, on Thursday, August 31st, 2023, we celebrated the birthdays of all KG children born in August. The theme was 'Useful and harmful insects' and the children showcased their speaking skills through a Show & Tell activity. They enthusiastically shared their thoughts with props and learned about party etiquette. Events and Celebrations SPECIAL ASSEMBLY Raksha Bandhan Assembly by KG-D "Love tied with threads of care, that's the magic of Rakhi's share". The young Suncitizens of KG D conducted the Rakshabandhan assembly on August 22, 2023. The event exuded happiness and warmth, charmingly portraying the precious bond between siblings through an endearing skit. With innocent gestures and heartfelt dialogues, the skit touched the audience's hearts. Following the skit, the students shared their insights into the significance of Rakshabandhan. They expressed how brothers promise to shield their sisters, similar to how Lord Krishna protected Draupadi in her time of need. Sisters, in return, tie Rakhi around their brothers' wrists, symbolizing trust and affection. Following the skit, the students shared their insights into the significance of Rakshabandhan. The assembly reached its emotional peak as the children joyfully danced to the melodies of songs like "बहना ने भाई की कलाई " and "फूलो का तारो का " .Their performances added a heartwarming touch to the event, creating a memorable and cherished moment for everyone present. The assembly concluded on an uplifting note, underscoring that Rakshabandhan goes beyond blood relations and extends to friendships that become as dear as siblings. UPHAAR At Suncity, we uphold the 'Sanskars' and believe in installing values of compassion, kindness, caring, and sharing right from childhood. Students from our school donated books, notebooks, stationery items, and storybooks. These were sent over to lesser privileged schools as a gift on the occasion of Independence Day under our annual project 'UPHAAR'. INDEPENDENCE DAY 15th AUGUST 2023 “Freedom is not just a word; it's a feeling that unites us all. Let's keep the spirit of independence alive in our hearts". Suncitizens celebrated India’s 76th Independence Day with immense respect, pride, and strong patriotic feelings. Children attended the flag hoisting ceremony followed by the solemn notes of the National Anthem. They stood proudly in their national symbols attire to greet the chief guest as he passed through the corridors of the EYP wing. Our young nationals learned about the national symbols LEAP Learn > Engage > Acquire > Perform "Creativity is intelligence having fun". -Albert Einstein To unleash the creativity of our children we conduct LEAP activities each month wherein children perform various brainstorming tasks to enhance their higher-order thinking skills and ingenuity to be future-ready. The activity performed by the students this month was: Complete the Pattern: - Children were given sets of unfinished patterns, and they used their problem-solving skills to complete the patterns. This activity enhanced their analysing and evaluating skills. Bodily Kinesthetic Event On this National Sports Day, may your passion for your sport continue to shine as a beacon of dedication and perseverance. On this Athletic occasion, Elementary years’ students celebrated the Bodily Kinesthetic Event 2023 with great fun, vigour and enthusiasm. Bodily kinesthetic intelligence is most widely used in everyday routine, from the time we wake up to every single time we move. Therefore, it is very important to strengthen this intelligence through various activities to enhance sensorimotor development and cognition. The tiny tots of EYP participated in this event wherein each class performed a class specific drill such as:
