Dear Parent(s) Greetings! Let’s glance through the month of 'Spectacular September'. “Animals are such agreeable friends – they ask no questions; they pass no criticisms.” – George Eliot Animals are the most wonderful and unique creatures. They not only teach us to be compassionate and empathetic but also contribute to our social development. Their presence and significance in a child's learning are invaluable. Each animal holds a distinct life value that impacts children. Animals pique children's curiosity, bring enthusiasm to their learning, and enrich their daily experiences. It's undeniable that most children have a deep affection for animals, and a natural affinity exists between them. Theme: 'Animals' To help our students establish a sense of connection and responsibility and foster love and care for animals, we chose 'Animals' as the theme of the month.
Naturalistic Intelligence “Water is life and clean water means health” -Audrey Hepburn To embrace best practices for preserving our environment and educate the students about the importance of clean water and sanitation, the following ideas were instilled in the children:
Verbal Linguistic Intelligence –English "Language learning empowers children to unlock the boundless possibilities of communication and self-expression." The children were introduced to the letters 'r,' 's,' 't,' 'u,' 'v,' 'w,' 'x,' 'y,' and 'z,' along with associated vocabulary and the Jolly Phonics method. They refined their letter-writing abilities by tracing these letters in both their notebooks and workbooks. Furthermore, they engaged in reading short sentences and practiced writing words from the 'ág' family, which are CVC (consonant-vowel-consonant) words. Additionally, they were introduced to a selection of sight words, including 'has,' 'these,' 'girl,' 'say,' 'look,' 'little,' 'those,' 'few,' 'under,' and 'gone,' using an instructive PowerPoint presentation as a learning aid. Storytelling Storytelling promotes brain development and imagination in children. It also aids in language and emotional development while strengthening relationships. With this in mind, we began the month by narrating 'The Magic Porridge Pot,' a story that emphasizes the value of not being greedy and envious of others. Following the story, we engaged the children in 'The Mapping of the Story' activity, which helped enhance their communication and visual skills. Subsequently, we shared the story of 'The Tree of Life,' which highlights the importance of trees in everyone's life. Drama Introducing children to drama and the world of performing arts can effectively stimulate their creative faculties. These experiences offer children the opportunity to explore a wide range of emotions and expressions by taking on various roles. For instance, they might portray 'Uncle Tom' in different scenarios, including moments of laughter, tears, or simply opening a door, among others. Additionally, they enthusiastically participated in engaging activities like the focus game, which proved to be an invaluable tool for bolstering their self-confidence. Logical-Mathematical Intelligence Stimulating logical-mathematical intelligence promotes cognitive development, including logical thinking, reasoning, problem-solving, and concentration.
Visual-Spatial Intelligence Visual spatial intelligence is the ability to perceive, analyze, understand, store, and recall visual information. It encompasses various creative disciplines, including visual movements, imagination skills, aesthetic skills, and finger dexterity. During our Visual-Spatial sessions, children had the opportunity to explore their aesthetic skills through a range of colouring and craft activities. In the first week, learners created 'Lion Masks,' aligning with the theme of the month, 'Animals.' Moving into the second week, they had fun crafting 'Cow Head Gear' related to farm animals. In the third week, with the theme still in mind, children collaborated to make 'Giraffe Hand Puppets.' As we reached the fourth week, learners used thumbprints to craft a 'Lion Habitat.' These engaging activities allowed them to express their creativity and develop their visual-spatial intelligence. Pottery “Pottery is the perfect blend of science and art, where craftsmanship meets creativity” Pottery provides young minds with a sense of accomplishment and independence. It allows them to create something from scratch and witness the fruits of their labor. This process builds self-confidence and teaches them that they can accomplish tasks independently. In our integrated approach to learning this month, our young sculptors crafted a rose and an Xmas tree, reinforcing the letters 'Rr' and 'Xx.' However, their learning journey didn't stop there; they also created a hexagon to explore the concept of a six-sided shape. To foster creativity, the children were given the freedom to sculpt any animal of their choice. The pottery sessions were met with enthusiasm, and the children eagerly anticipated each session. Montessori “The things he sees are not just remembered; they form a part of his soul.” ― Dr. Maria Montessori In the month of September, children engaged in the following activities:
Imaginarium ‘Imagination is the soil that brings a dream to life.’ Children showcased their imagination and creativity as they prepared healthy meals at the kitchen station. They were also introduced to the importance of working together as a team in a friendly and harmonious manner. In the following weeks, children continued to engage in free play at various stations, allowing them to explore their areas of interest. Playtime "Play is not just about having fun but about taking risks, experimenting, and testing boundaries. ~ American Academy of Pediatrics Children primarily learn through play rather than formal instruction or disciplined study. More recently, the scientific establishment has recognized that free play is an essential and integral part of children's learning process. Children naturally love free play and interacting with their peers. They exercised their freedom of choice by engaging in activities such as playing on slides, swings, in the sandpit, on the trampoline, riding tricycles, and enjoying their other favourite spots in the EYP play area. Musical Intelligence Musical intelligence enhances brain power and fosters the development of social skills. Scientifically, music has been proven to offer numerous advantages and health benefits. Indian Music Music plays a crucial role in a child's development. Music education involves a high level of memorization. Exposure to music from early childhood helps children speak more clearly, develop a larger vocabulary, and strengthen their social and emotional skills. Throughout the month, children practiced various musical activities, including singing the 'Welcome Song,' engaging in vocal warm-ups, rhythm clapping, playing the 'Sa Re Ga Ma' Body game, participating in Shloka Chanting, and singing the 'रेलगाड़ी' song, all under the guidance of the educator. Western Music Rhythms and melodies help children memorize phrases, understand rhyming patterns, and grasp context. Music teaches children about plants, animals, people, and relationships. During our thematic month, children practiced singing the song 'I have a pet' and revised it to the tunes of a guitar with the guidance of the educator. Dance “Dancing is the joy of movement and the heart of life” Dance is the rhythmic movement of the body used for expressing ideas, emotions, releasing energy, or simply for self-pleasure. It plays a significant role in developing physical, creative, imaginative, emotional, and intellectual capacities. To celebrate special moments and festivals, dance has always been an integral part. In the spirit of Janmashtami festivities, our budding artists learned steps to the song 'वो किसना है'. Bodily Kinaesthetic Intelligence The bodily kinesthetic learning style is one of the eight types of learning styles defined in Howard Gardner's theory of Multiple Intelligences. For those with this learning style, movement serves as an aid to memory, and they recall movements from others as well as their own. In order to strengthen our students' emotional intelligence, foster team spirit, and develop their sports skills, the educator taught our young champions various exercises, including:
Skating ' I may lose my balance but I never lose my determination.' Skating is a fun and exciting way to exercise while improving balance, coordination, and cardiovascular health. It's also simply a lot of fun! It's a way to let loose, have some laughs, and enjoy the thrill of movement and speed. Speed skating is a competitive form in which competitors race each other to cover a certain distance on skates. During our sessions, children practiced a variety of movements while skating, including:
Interpersonal Intelligence Birthday Celebration- Show & Tell Our little ones were excited to be part of birthday celebrations, sharing their special day with classmates and teachers. Keeping the joyful spirit alive, we celebrated the birthdays of KG children born in September right in the classroom. The theme for September was 'Animals.' The children were enthusiastic about discussing their favorite animals and even pretending to be like them. They also shared interesting facts about where these animals live and their offspring. Events and Celebrations SPECIAL ASSEMBLY Grandparents Day Assembly – NURSERY B "Grandparents hold our tiny hands for just a little while, but our hearts forever." It is indeed a blessing to have grandparents with us. They are the ones who have paved the path for our parents, making them the best decision-makers for us. The tiny tots of Nursery B showed their love for grandparents through a special assembly on Grandparents Day. They demonstrated their skills through dance, a skit, and quotes that emphasized the importance of grandparents in our lives. They expressed their appreciation for grandparents by sharing some of the things grandparents do for us. Our Academic Head, Ms. Bhawna Singh, encouraged students to think about the ways in which our grandparents support us. She emphasized the importance of spending time with our grandparents, showing them love and care, and seeking their blessings always. LEAP Learn >Engage >Acquire> Perform "Creativity involves breaking out of expected patterns in order to look at things in a different way." -Edward De Bono To unleash our children's creativity, we conduct LEAP activities each month where children perform various brainstorming tasks to enhance their higher-order thinking skills and ingenuity to be future-ready. The activity performed by the students this month was:
