Theme and Naturalistic-JanuaryTheme 1: Evolution of the ‘Earth’ and continents • The educator made the children aware of how the ‘Earth’ evolved from what it was millions of years ago and how it got split into continents. The discussion enabled the children to develop a better understanding of the different continents and oceans in the world around them. • Children enjoyed doing an activity of locating the different continents on a ball of earth. Naturalistic Intelligence• The educator discussed environment conservation and also provided children with the opportunity to discover the two different approaches to keep our planet safe. The importance of protecting the planet was also discussed. • The children were made aware of the different habitats that support animals too. They learnt that a habitat provides the basic needs for a living being to survive. • Children also indulged in doing an activity using “Best out of Waste” material that developed the ability in the young minds to think and organize the old and used resources to create something new and useful. Universal Value- ‘I am Truthful’ At Suncity, we aim to inculcate the ‘Sanskars’ in our young learners through universal values. Through the value of being truthful, children learn to accept their strengths and weaknesses and thereby their failures and achievements. They learnt the value of commitment and being honest towards ourselves and others. A person who is truthful always speaks the truth, shows honest behaviour and is trustworthy. The teacher presented the video of the story ‘Pinocchio’ and discussed the value of always being truthful. Verbal Linguistic Intelligence–English Our kindergarteners focused largely on understanding letters, sounds, and words. They were delighted to take their first steps towards reading short sentences. They enriched their vocabulary by learning new words. Children were introduced to reading and writing of words with diagraph and blends – ‘ch’ , ‘sh’ , ‘cl’ , ‘bl’, ‘fl’, ‘gl’ and ‘sl’. They also enhanced their reading skills by reading some new sight words. Verbal Linguistic Intelligence– Hindiजनवरी के महीने में छात्रों को गीत और कहानी के माध्यम से व्यंजन ड़, ज, छ, ह, क्ष और ण का परिचय कराया गया। साथ ही साथ दो अक्षरों से बनने वाले शब्दों का अभ्यास भी कराया गया। अध्यापिका जी ने व्यंजनों को कक्षा में दिखाया और इनसे बनने वाले शब्द भी सिखाये जैसे ज से जहाज, ज से जलेबी, छ से छाता, छ से छत्त, ह से हाथ, ह से हाथी I व्यंजन ‘ड़’ का प्रयोग सड़क शब्द में किया जाता है, व्यंजन ‘क्ष’ का प्रयोग कक्षा शब्द में किया जाता है और व्यंजन ‘ण’ का प्रयोग बाण शब्द में किया जाता है। छात्रों को इन व्यंजनों से बनने वाले शब्द बताये गए अथवा व्यंजनों का अभ्यास कार्य-पुस्तिका में कराया। Logical Mathematical IntelligenceOur little mathematicians are learning to understand the relationships between numbers and recognize how quantities relate to one another.
Visual-Spatial IntelligenceVisual art helps children represent their thoughts, skills and also help them explore their innate artistic skills creatively. • In the second week, the educator recapitulated the names of the seven continents through a continent song. Later, children enjoyed making a wall-hanging of the seven continents. • In the third week, the children revised the features of the continent ‘Asia’ through an activity ‘Me on the map’ in which they detected their location by finding out their Home- City- State- Country and Continent on the map. • In the fourth week, the educator explained about the continent ‘Australia’ through a ‘Kangaroo Craft’. Children learnt some interesting facts about kangaroos as well. Musical Intelligence Music stimulates the brain in a very powerful way because of our emotional connection with it. It can also improve long term memory and leads to a better brain development. Learning music can improve a child’s social and cognitive skills. Indian MusicMusic is spiritual; it also has the power to bring people together. It is a pleasant sound and a combination of melodies and harmony that soothes you. The children practiced the welcome song, ‘आओ आओ संगीत बनाओ’, ‘Vocal Warm-ups’, ‘Instrument Song’, ‘Animal Choir’, ‘Rhythm Clapping’, and नारंगी (narangi) song in Indian Music. Western MusicThe educator introduced a new song, ‘This is the day that the Lord has made’. Children could add new words to their vocabulary through this song and were enthralled to sing along. Dance‘Dancing stimulates the mind, body & soul. It increases cognitive strengths and prolongs life; that is the miracle of dance.’ Dance is a beautiful form of art that helps us express ourselves and promotes growth as well as enjoyment. During the month, the children attempted warmup exercises and thrilled themselves as they danced to the tune of the song, "Rangla Punjab". Bodily Kinaesthetic IntelligenceKinaesthetic learning often includes physical repetition of tasks, which builds muscle memory in children and further boosts retention. Movement can increase energy, which helps children stay focused. It also improves critical thinking, problem-solving skills and most importantly self-confidence. To inculcate the above abilities and to control one's body movements, the children practiced various exercises. Post winter vacation, the classes resumed from the second week wherein children performed the ‘Alphabet Yoga’ exercises from letters A-G along with the educator. During the second week, letters G-J were covered, followed up by letters K-Z in the last week. The Yoga poses helped in bringing co-ordination, balance and flexibility in the children. DramaDrama is a unique form of creative expression, and it takes a lot of courage to stand on a stage and speak in front of an audience. It develops creative imagination in children and allows them to think and express themselves independently. Keeping this aim in mind, the educator narrated the following story in this month- 1. ‘छोट़ा संजू’(Chota Sanju) which was followed by questions and answers. Story tellingStories help in achieving awareness and at the same time, it improves emotional intelligence and control over one’s emotions. While listening and understanding to stories, children subconsciously develop the ability to think for others. This feeling of correlating and concern for others, makes one a better individual. The following stories were taken up by the educator during the month of January: ‘The Clever Tailor’- This story was a beautiful depiction of Indian attires used in the medieval times by the people of the Indian origin. It is an Indian version of the European folktale which was narrated to the children to enhance their understanding on culture and tradition. ‘The Clever Tailor - Activity’– As a recapitulation of the story narrated in the previous week, children drew apparels like (kurta, odni, saafa) mentioned in the story using different lines (standing, sleeping, slanting) and curves (front open, back open, upwards and downwards) Chintu’s Cap – In the last week of the month, a fun story emphasizing on wisdom and presence of mind was narrated to our smart learners. Birthday Celebration: Celebrations bring joy and excitement. Birthday celebrations are important for emotional and social development. Fоr children, thеіr birthday іѕ thе mоѕt exciting day оf thе year, dеfіnіtеlу mоrе important thаn аnу оthеr day. Keeping up the spirit, birthdays of Kindergarten students, born in the month of January were celebrated on January 31st. The theme for the celebration was ‘Continents’. All students carried a picture, objects related to the theme. They presented a ‘Show and Tell’ activity related to the theme. The birthday celebrations helped them in understanding good manners, the use of three magic words, and the importance of maintaining decorum while attending a birthday party. |
Lohri and Makar Sakranti :
Our youngest enthusiasts of Nursery D and Pre Nursery were thrilled to present their first virtual assembly on ‘Lohri’ and ‘Makar Sankranti’. The educator apprised them of the harvest festivals of India through a video. They were familiarised about the fact that Makar Sankranti marks the beginning of the spring season.

Republic Day-
“Sare jahan se accha Hindustan hamara, Hum bulbule hai iske , ye gulsita hamara”
Our Kindergarteners celebrated the glory of a free India and upheld the pride and honour of being an Indian. We celebrated 73rd Republic Day of India with great zeal on the virtual platform.
During the assembly, the children showcased the culture and traditions of few states of India. They took pride in presenting their skills. Children also highlighted the importance of few rights which are mentioned in the Constitution of India. In the end, our little enthusiasts presented a scintillating dance performance and National Anthem which filled the environment with the spirit of patriotism. It was indeed a spectacular assembly.
