Dear Parent, (s) Greetings! Let's glance through the months of ‘Jubilant’ July. After a fun-filled summer break, the children were welcomed back to school as we commenced another month of innovative learning and growing. The learning began with the recapitulation of the concept of sense organs, internal and external body parts, and Dogs. They were thrilled to meet their furry buddy ‘Shih Tzu’, Indie Dog and reiterated about its body parts and grooming products. Theme- Plants We welcomed the rainy season with our theme 'Out in the Garden.' The children appreciated the beauty and significance of nature by visiting the school garden, where they enjoyed spending time amidst nature. They loved learning gardening skills with the help of the school gardener and explored ways to create a beautiful garden of their own. The students became familiar with the tools that a gardener uses to take care of the garden. During the activities, the students were introduced to a plant's basic needs and explored different types of trees, leaves, flowers, and plant categories. They also had a delightful learning experience while planting seeds and understanding the process of germination with the help of the educator. Additionally, the students were briefed about the essential benefits provided by trees and the importance of saving them. Naturalistic Intelligence ‘Trees are the lungs of the Earth, saving them is definitely worth’. We are all that our environment has. If we don't take care of it, who else will? Therefore, to address the Sustainable Development Goals, our children learned about healthy sustainable practices through the following discussions and activities:
Verbal Linguistic Intelligence –English Understanding phonetic sounds is a crucial step in developing strong reading and writing abilities. Our students practiced the phonetic sounds of letters from ‘A-Z’ and their related vocabulary words. They also practiced the formations of letters Ii, Jj, Kk, L l and Mm through air tracing and writing. Reading three-letter words, along with various sight words such as this, from, have, them, today, him, her, are, some, out, boy, there and with, helped the students in reading short sentences. Verbal Linguistic Intelligence – Hindi बच्चों का हिंदी सीखना उतना ही अनिवार्य है जितना कि अंग्रेजी l इसलिए जुलाई के माह में बच्चों को स्वर गीत, कहानी और कविता के माध्यम से स्वरों (ओ,औ,ए और ऐ) का परिचय दिया गया। साथ ही लिखित अभ्यास द्वारा और कुछ चीज़ें दिखाकर इनकी पहचान भी कराई गयी। बच्चों ने बड़े उत्साह के साथ स्वरों (उ, ऊ, अ, ओ,औ,ए) की पुनरावृति सुंदर से ‘जादू का पिटारा’ से करी । Story telling Story telling promotes brain development and imagination in children. It aids in development of language and emotions and strengthens relationships. Keeping this view in mind ‘’Chintu’s Cap’’ was the first story narrated this month, which emphasized upon the value of effective communication and helping others. The story was followed by an activity in which children enjoyed drawing and coloring their caps in the second week. They were so amazed to hear the story ’Tails’ in the third week which narrates different types of tails in animals. Drama Drama allows kids to explore their own identity by creating situations that mirror the real world. It also fosters the development of healthy emotional expression, encouraging children to think independently and express themselves confidently. It helps them to make better decisions and to speak up for what’s right for them. This month, Suncitizens enjoyed portraying different emotions through an ice – breaking activity along with appropriate facial expressions. Logical Mathematical Intelligence Stimulation of logical-mathematical intelligence promotes cognitive development, especially in terms of logical thinking, reasoning, problem-solving, and concentration. The children were introduced to the concept of ‘Backward Counting’ from numbers 15 to 1 through number cards. They also engaged in related fun worksheets in their math workbooks. Through an interactive song, they practiced oral counting from 1 to 80. Children reiterated the concept of ones-tens through workbook sheets. Children were introduced to a ‘Number name Song’ and were excited to learn to write number names from ‘One to Three’ through a sand tracing activity. Later they reiterated the concept through ‘Feed the monster’ activity. They also revisited the concepts of 2D shapes and made the shapes in their art file using strips from old newspaper. As part of their SHIN Edu program, children created shapes using equilateral triangles and also completed a workbook activity using the trapezium shape. Visual-Spatial Intelligence Visual Art Art is an experience which can be consciously created through an experience of skill or imagination. It is a creative therapy that uses all disciplines of Art; visual movements, imagination skills, aesthetic skills and finger dexterity. Children explored their aesthetic skills with the help of various coloring and craft activities during Visual-Spatial session. In the first week, learners enjoyed freehand drawing and coloring of different body parts. In the second week, they discussed various facts about the plants and enjoyed ‘leaf Imprinting’ activity with their peers. Moving on to the third week, children crafted 'Tulip' flowers using origami sheets, and in the last week, they created 'Lady Bug' crafts. Pottery Pottery nurtures children's creativity, boosts their imagination, instills self-confidence, and promotes social skills. It also calms down the hyperactive mind and develops resilience and cooperation. This month we celebrated the Summer fruit festival, children of different sections sculpted a fruit as per the theme of their class. KG (A) – Students made a litchi. KG (B) – Students made a watermelon. KG (C) – Students made a coconut. KG (D) – Students made a banana. The fun didn’t end there. They also coloured the fruit and made a necklace out of it. Under the integrated approach of learning, children made a lollipop to reiterate the letter ‘L’. This time children were introduced to the Pottery Wheel. Pottery wheels can be a great way to help your little ones explore their creativity. Furthermore, it can also encourage tactile experiences. Using the Pottery wheel they made ओखली to reiterate swar ओ. Montessori Imagination does not become great until human beings, given the courage and the strength, use it to create. -Maria Montessori The main purpose of the Montessori teaching is to provide a carefully planned, stimulating environment which will aid the child develop an excellent foundation for creative learning. Imaginarium Imagination is more important than knowledge. Knowledge is limited, whereas imagination embraces the entire world, stimulating progress, and giving birth to evolution. -Albert Einstein Children embraced their different emotions by working at the feelings corner. They reiterated the concept of the 5 senses through an activity at the sensorial station. Also, they thoroughly enjoyed the pretend and play activities at different stations, such as the grooming station, shopping station, kitchen station, play gym, fire station, etc., at the Imaginarium lab specially crafted for the development of the imaginative mind of our young learners. Musical Intelligence Indian Music Music plays a key role in the overall development of the students; hence, it is a significant component of the child’s holistic development. Exposing children to music during early development helps them learn the sounds and meanings of words. This month, Children enjoyed reciting the ‘Shanti Mantras’ using instrumental music and had fun learning the rhythm clapping. They also enjoyed playing the basic pattern 1-2-3 on the musical instrument, 'Congo’. Western Music “Fun, Fabulous, Uplifting, Magical’’. Music brings joy and unity. Our music sessions provide a fun and comfortable environment for children, strengthening their memory. Children practiced singing the song 'We Shall Overcome' and revised it to the tune of a guitar. Teaching children songs and rhymes is one of the best ways to develop their auditory perceptual skills while having fun and learning with ease. Dance Dance is a rhythmic movement of the body to express an idea or emotion, release energy, or for self-pleasure. It helps to develop physical, creative, imaginative, emotional, and intellectual capacities. This month, our children matched their footsteps to a patriotic song ‘ऐसा देश है ‘मेरा.’ Through this dance session, we tried to imbibe a sense of pride in our country’s rich heritage. Bodily Kinaesthetic Intelligence Bodily-kinaesthetic intelligence refers to the ability to control movement and handle physical objects. Children who exhibit this kind of intelligence learn best through hands-on activities and movement. Therefore, children must engage in such activities regularly to enhance their overall development. This month, the students practiced the following exercises:
Children enjoyed playing: Week 1- Warm-up exercise with Fun Game: A game like Fire in the Mountain that helps kids learn to cooperate with each other. These games help to build: oral language, collaboration, listening skills, vocabulary, wondering, innovations, explorations and community. Fire in the Mountains is a quick-paced, active whole class team building game. Week 2- Gymnastics-Jumping on the Spring Board: The act of jumping helps to develop leg strength and balance. Jumping is also a building block for more complex movements, specialised skills and overall physical fitness. In gymnastics, a jump is where the performer uses the muscles in their legs to propel their body off the ground completely. Week 3- Stacking Cones: Children practiced eye-hand coordination while stacking cones over one another. They enjoyed playing sucha a fun game that exercises fine motor skills, hand control, and patience. Week 4-Endurance Activity: Activity like Hula-Hoop Jumping works on gross motor skills by focusing on weight shifting, balance, jumping and hopping. This improves students’ abilities to use playground and exercise equipment, and to participate in recreational sports and leisure activities. Skating Getting kids involved is a great way to move them up! Skating requires both physical and mental energy, and it’s a great workout for the whole body. Skating is also low-impact, so it’s easy on joints and muscles. Water Play gives them the opportunity to play and have fun in the outdoors. It is both fun and educational with a range of benefits for children’s social and emotional development. It also provides them with so many opportunities to explore different sensory experiences. Children had a lot of fun during the water play activity. Interpersonal Intelligence Birthday celebration- Show & Tell Birthdays are a time of joy and celebration, and when it comes to students, these special days hold even greater significance. Hence, all KG children that were born in July had their birthday celebrations on Monday, 31st July 2023. The theme for the celebration was ‘Different types of trees. Children showcased their oral skills through a ‘Show & Tell’ activity. They were excited to speak their lines and were ready with their props. Children reiterated the basic etiquette of how to behave at a birthday party. Events and Celebrations Special Assembly Van Mahotsav Assembly by KG-C “To be without trees would, in the most literal way, to be without our roots.” ― Richard Mabey Our little nurturers of KG-C exhibited their love for nature through a special assembly on ‘Van Mahotsav’. They showcased their skills through dance, skits, and slogans, highlighting the importance of trees in our lives. They expressed their concern for depleting forest land and shared some important facts about trees, such as providing shelter to many living beings, attracting rain clouds, and being an important source of food. The children hugged around the trees to protect them and appealed to each one to plant one tree and contribute to reviving the Green land bank. They ended their performance with the slogan पेड़ ना कोई कटने पाए जंगल ना अब कटने पाए आओ मिल्कर पेड़ लगाए We also distributed saplings to the children to plant at their home, take care of them, and be a custodian to them under Project Hariyali. Our Academic head ,Ms. Bhawna Singh, encouraged students to preserve trees, which play a vital role in maintaining the ecological balance. She added that it is the responsibility of each citizen to not only plant but also nurture also to nurture and protect them. Finally, we all took a pledge to save and nurture plants Summer Fruit Festival A summer fruit festival was organized to expand the vocabulary and awareness of children about summer fruits – Plum, Pineapple, Cherry, Mango, Apple, Pomegranate, Litchi, Watermelon, Banana and Coconut in terms of the following areas:
Children also acquired the sensorial learning related to a variety of fruits such as their origin, texture, and taste. The event was celebrated to teach kids the health benefits of fruits – “Eat healthy live healthy”. Real Life Dog Experience Pets can serve different purposes for children. They increase opportunities for us to go outside and exercise while taking them out for a walk. Dogs are good companions for human beings and make the home environment quite lively.
Learn > Engage > Acquire > Perform “Children do not move, think or speak in a straight line and neither does their imagination nor Creativity”. To unleash the creativity of our children, we conduct LEAP activities each month wherein children perform various brainstorming tasks to enhance their higher -order thinking skills and ingenuity to be future-ready. The activity performed by the students this month was: Finish the Drawing - Children were given an unfinished drawing, they used their imagination to complete the drawing. Later they described about it and enhanced their comprehending and communicating skills. Excursion Children were thrilled to watch the movie ‘Elemental,’ which was in sync with the theme for this month, ‘Plants and Summer Season’, and the Sustainable Development Goal – ‘Life on Land’ (SDG 15). This excursion helped children enhance their verbal-linguistic and visual-spatial intelligences. It also helped them acquire the etiquettes of behaving at public places and gain the confidence and courtesy to greet others, thereby enhancing their interpersonal intelligence. They enjoyed munching popcorn and taking sips of juice in between while being occupied in the visual delight. After the excursion, the educator discussed the part of the movie each child liked the most.
