Dear Parent, Greetings! Theme of the month: Festivals India is a land of festivals, and teaching the importance of festivals to our children is of utmost importance. Irrespective of who we are and what religion we follow, celebrations of any sorts are always magical whether it is religious, national or international. Everyone gets together for preparations during festivities. October was the month when a lot of festivals lined up. The entire atmosphere filled with joy and enthusiasm during the festive season. We took this opportunity to share with our students about the significance of some important cultural and traditional festivals of India like- Dussehra, Diwali, Janmashtami and Holi. They understood the importance of Gandhi Jayanti being a national festival. The teachers also discussed and explained about the celebrations that take place in other parts of the world i.e., International festivals. Children were made aware of the significance and importance of few International festivals like- Halloween, La Tomatina, Lantern festival, Hanukkah and Monkey feast festival. Universal Value- I am Peace I am peace is a gentle reminder for kids to appreciate living in the moment, calm their emotions, be patient and be kind to themselves and others, respect the simplicity of nature. The educator presented a video on ‘I am Peace’ and also discussed several ways in which they can feel peace e.g. (sharing kindness with others, hugging a tree to thank its beauty, planting more trees, doing yoga etc.) Naturalistic Intelligence Festive season is the most joyous time of the year for everyone. Every festival has its own importance and meaning. Every festival brings happiness and harmony between our traditions and rituals. It is important to teach children the importance of celebrating festivals. Our growing kids should be taught the true meaning of rituals, culture, and devotion of festivals. Celebrating festivals with everyone can help your kids to meet and greet everyone as well as they can learn the importance of togetherness. Traditional cuisine encourages the joy of celebrations during the festive time.
Verbal Linguistic- English Reading help develops child's brain, ability to focus, concentration, social skills and communication skills hence we encouraged children to read and share short stories of ‘i’ and ‘o’ family words through their English reader book which helped children to reiterate the sounds of letters, enhance their imagination, stimulate curiosity and develop early literacy skills. A few sight words were recapitulated and new sights were introduced to the children which helped them in reading short sentences. Children also recapitulated all the letters by identifying the pictures of different vocabulary words through PPT and they were asked to write the first letter in their notebook. They were introduced to the letter ‘Zz’ along with its formation and vocabulary words. Logical/Mathematical Intelligence Stimulation of logical-mathematical intelligence promotes cognitive development, especially in terms of logical thinking, reasoning, problem-solving, and concentration. Keeping this in mind, oral counting and writing practice of numbers from 1 to 100 according to their place value was practiced. The concept of ‘what comes in between’ was recapitulated through a song and practiced later in the notebook. Children were introduced to backward counting from 40-1 through an energizer. Children were introduced to the number names ‘Seven and Eight’ and they also recapitulated number names from One to Eight. Children were introduced to the concept of 'Greater than/ Less than and Equal to’ through an activity. They were guided to make a crocodile mouth with ice cream sticks which helped them to practice the concept through playway approach. Dance Dance is a way for kids to express their creativity, imagination, and emotions. During the month, the children performed warm up exercises and danced to the tune of the Diwali Song, ‘Pretty Diyas’. Bodily-Kinesthetic Intelligence: Bodily-kinesthetic intelligence is the ability to be aware of one’s own body and translate this ability in all the activities that are undertaken. Children performed animal yoga (cat pose, crab pose, turtle pose etc.) during the first week whereas second week was an off on the occasion of Dussehra. During the third and fourth week, a variety of fun exercises and yoga poses such as ball roll, tree pose, etc. were performed by the children along with the educator to maintain an active and healthy body. Interpersonal Intelligence Helping children develop the full range of interpersonal skills is one of the most important things we can do to ensure they grow up to have healthy relationships with others. Drama- Drama helps healthily develop feelings, encourages children to think and express themselves independently, and therefore develops children's social awareness and cooperative consciousness. Keeping this view in mind, children practiced dialogues in different expressions in the first week, and a mask-wearing activity was done in the subsequent week in which they had to wear masks of emotions (happiness, sadness, anger, fear, disgust) along with the educator. Storytelling- Storytelling helps improve children’s language skills, instills a love of reading, and stirs their imagination. The first story narrated this month was 'Be Kind’, which exhibited different examples of showing kindness to others like lending a helping hand, speaking politely to others, using magical words, and so on. In the following week, children did a sorting activity by pasting pictures into kind and unkind columns. In the third week, an Indian folk tale was narrated emphasizing the importance of curiosity and hard work, followed by a drawing of a tribal girl activity in the last week. Celebrations: Birthday- Show and Tell activity Teaching our children how to celebrate and love others in special ways is a lifelong skill that we can begin to develop in the early years and birthdays are a great way to do this. [1] Keeping up the spirit, birthdays of Kindergarten children born in the month of October were virtually celebrated on 29th October 2021. The theme for the celebration was ‘My Favourite Festival’ (National /International Festival). All students dressed up according to the theme and also carried Props or a picture related to it. They spoke a few lines on their ‘Favourite Festival’. Children also reiterated the basic etiquettes of how to behave at a party. Project Uphaar- Spreading Smiles The children were encouraged to use recycled plastic bottles as their piggy bank to deposit coins or notes of any denomination of their will and choice and then with this money, they bought a gift to give to their housemaids or other [2] underprivileged people. The children gift-wrapped the gifts with recycled newspapers and stuck a smiley emoji on it. They in a true sense fulfilled the meaning of Diwali by spreading smiles.
