Dear Parents, Greetings! Let us glance through the month of ‘Opulent October’. Theme: 'Celebrations' India is a land of festivals, and teaching the importance of festivals to our children is of utmost importance. Celebrations are a great way of teaching moral values like gratitude, respect, and love to kids. Irrespective of who we are and what religion we follow, celebrations of any sort are always magical, whether they are religious, national, or international. Everyone comes together for preparations during festivities. October was the month when a lot of festivals were lined up. The entire atmosphere was filled with joy and enthusiasm during the festive season. We took this opportunity to share with our students the significance of some important festivals of India like Dusshera, Diwali, Janmashtami, and Holi. The students understood the importance of Gandhi Jayanti as a national festival. The teachers also discussed the significance and importance of a few international festivals like Halloween, La Tomatina, Lantern Festival, Hanukkah, and Monkey Feast Festival. Naturalistic Intelligence The festive season is the most joyous time of the year for everyone. Every festival has its importance and meaning. Celebrating festivals helps the children meet and greet everyone as well as enables them to learn the importance of togetherness. Traditional cuisine encourages the joy of celebrations during the festive time. Our little children learned about a variety of foods served during different festivals. Keeping the SDG - Good health and well-being in mind, they were apprised of the importance of healthy food to be consumed during festivals. They also learned to make Pippi Rana, a Spanish salad prepared during 'La Tomatina.' Children were apprised of the significance of 'The Swachh Bharat Mission' and were explained the importance of keeping their surroundings clean. They were sensitized to the safety measures to be taken care of while celebrating festivals with the help of a video demonstration. Verbal Linguistic Intelligence –English Reading plays a pivotal role in enhancing a child's concentration, social acumen, and communication skills. By engaging in these activities, the children not only refreshed their understanding of letter sounds but also nurtured their imaginative faculties, fostered curiosity, and advanced their early literacy skills. Hence, children were encouraged to read and share short stories of 'i' family words through their English reader book. Furthermore, the sight words were reinforced by reviewing familiar ones, and a few new ones were introduced, enabling children to construct and comprehend short sentences. They also undertook a comprehensive review of all the letters through the Jolly Phonic song. As part of their holistic development, students were also encouraged to practice their handwriting diligently. From Aa to Zz, they meticulously covered the entire alphabet in their notebooks, honing their fine motor skills and reinforcing their knowledge of letter formation. Storytelling Storytelling promotes brain development and imagination in children. It also aids in language and emotional development while strengthening relationships. With this in mind, we began the month by narrating 'Little Red Hen.' Following the story, we engaged the children in "Hand Tracing" to create the hen on paper. Subsequently, we shared the story of 'The Sun and The Wind,' which highlights that soft persuasion can sometimes win over the mightiest power. Logical-Mathematical Intelligence Logic and mathematics are nothing but specialized linguistic structures. -Jean Piaget Exploring the world of numbers in our mathematics activities for the month, our young learners achieved the following milestones:
Visual-Spatial Intelligence Visual-spatial intelligence is the ability to perceive, analyze, understand, store, and recall visual information. It encompasses various creative disciplines, including visual movements, imagination skills, aesthetic skills, and finger dexterity. During our Visual-Spatial sessions, children had the opportunity to explore their aesthetic skills through a range of coloring and craft activities. In the first week, learners created a poster on 'Swachh Bharat Mission.' Coming to the second week, they had fun crafting beautiful 'Lanterns,' and in the third week, children enjoyed freehand drawing to create a "Dusshera Scene." Keeping the theme of the month, "Celebrations," in mind, children collaborated to make 'Halloween Puppets.' Musical Intelligence Music plays a very important part in a child's development. Exposure to music from early childhood onward helps children speak more clearly, develop a larger vocabulary, and strengthens their social and emotional skills. Indian Music Children attempted vocal warmups and rhythm clapping.·Children Children practiced singing the welcome song, "Sa Re Ga Ma," played the "Body game," and recited the Shanti mantra along with the educator. ·Children enjoyed playing the musical instrument, the 'Clap Box.' They also practiced Sargam using Sargam stapoo. Western Music Exposing children to music during the early years ignites all areas of child development and skills. The children practiced using the musical instrument, the 'Snare drum,' along with the educator. Bodily Kinaesthetic Intelligence Bodily kinesthetic is a learning style often referred to as learning with the hands or physical learning. People with bodily kinesthetic can learn more easily by doing, exploring, and discovering. During the month, the children learned various exercises to boost their stamina and gross motor skills. This month, the students practiced the following exercises:
Hula Hoop Relay Race: Relay games like the hula hoop relay race are great team-building activities and a lot of fun for kids to play. Hula hoops are just one of many tools that physical therapists use to encourage physical development. Playing with hula hoops also burns calories, strengthens muscles, and improves coordination at any age. Zigzag Cones Race: The zigzag is a type of agility drill that challenges the cardiovascular system while training the leg muscles. These quick movements raise the heart rate, improve balance and coordination, and enhance speed. Interpersonal Intelligence Birthday Celebration Our little ones were excited to be part of birthday celebrations, sharing their special day with classmates and teachers. Keeping the joyful spirit alive, we celebrated the birthdays of KG children born in October right in the classroom. The theme for September was 'Halloween.' The children were enthusiastic about discussing the facts about Halloween and even pretending to be one of them. Montessori “The things he sees are not just remembered; they form a part of his soul.” ― Dr. Maria Montessori In the month of October children practiced the below given activities: • Colour tablet box 3 (Sensorial Activity) - To help the children develop a sense of colour discrimination and gain an understanding of primary and secondary colours. • Sand paper letters – vyanjan ‘क’, ‘र’ and ‘स’ – It helped the children to identify the sound and the formation of the vyanjans by means of muscular and visual memory. • Geometric cabinet drawer 2(Tracing the inset and frame): children gained knowledge and ability to identify the shapes within the environment and also enhanced their visual discrimination of shapes • Large movable alphabet box – Students formed ‘i’ family CVC words. Dance The impact of creative learning on children is enormous. It promotes the importance of teamwork and social inclusion in a subtle but direct manner. It also boosts confidence and communication skills which are vital to their children’s future happiness and success. A child who has the opportunity to learn dance becomes more interesting, expressive, and motivated. Garba Raas is the folk dance of Gujarat. With its origins in Gujarat, this popular socio-religious dance is performed during the time of the Navaratri festival. It is believed to be performed in memory of Goddess Durga's victory over Mahishasura. To enable our budding artist to enjoy the festivity they learned to match their steps to a Garba song ‘चोगाडा तारा’. Drama Drama serves as a valuable tool for helping children understand and manage their emotions in a healthy manner. It encourages them to think critically and express their thoughts and feelings. They also practiced a few emotions such as happy, sad, and angry as instructed by the educator. Skating Skating can be a fun and rewarding activity. It builds strength, balance and coordination while providing a great source of exercise. Skating can also help in building muscle strength and flexibility. Children practiced attempting the following position and footwork while skating:
Pottery Pottery nurtures children's creativity, boosts their imagination, imbibes self-confidence, and promotes social skills. It also calms down the hyperactive mind and develops resilience and cooperation. Under the integrated approach of learning:
Imaginarium ‘Imagination is the soil that brings a dream to life.’ Children are now able to identify their stations of interest wherein they enjoy the most with their peer group. They did free play at different stations and educators were amused to see their development and creativity. EYP Play Area “Play is not just about having fun but about taking risks, experimenting, and testing boundaries.” -American Academy of Pediatrics Children primarily learn through play rather than formal instruction or disciplined study. More recently, the scientific establishment has recognized that free play is an essential and integral part of children's learning process. Children naturally love free play and interacting with their peers. They exercised their freedom of choice by engaging in activities such as playing on slides, swings, in the sandpit, on the trampoline, riding tricycles, and enjoying their other favourite spots in the EYP play area. They performed two science activities: I) Soluble and Insoluble materials The educator presented various materials like tea leaves , salt , sand , sugar , lemon juice and oil to the students. The meaning of dissolving was explained. Then a hypothesis was framed whether the substance mentioned will dissolve completely or not . After the hypothesis the educator mixed different substances in water and then the students got a clear vision. Observation: - The substances which completely dissolve in water are Soluble . Example – Sugar, Salt and Lemon Juice The substances which do not dissolve in water are Insoluble. Example – Tea leaves, oil and Rice II) Air Occupies Space The educator kept a container of water and emerged a plastic cup in the container with a tissue rolled up it in. Children were amazed to see that the tissue was not wet at all. Then the plastic cup tilted a bit, children saw bubbles forming in the water and now the tissue was wet. The educator then explained that air was previously present in the class which did not allow water to enter in it and on making the glass tilt the air was out and water entered. Observation Air is present everywhere and also occupies space.
